Nezzsalem is an NPC in Arknights. He is one of the main antagonists in Act II of the Main Theme, primarily in Episode 14, as the Nachzehrer King.

Background

The current leader of the Nachzehrer tribe's Withering Court, Nezzsalem appears to be a very old individual even by the standards of his race. He was the former commander-in-chief of the Kazdelian War Council — the Military Commission's predecessor — and served as mentor of Theresa and Theresis, respectively[1].

As one of Kazdel's "Six Heroes", he met Kal'tsit at least twice over the ages, notably during the third destruction of Kazdel in 898, where he haulted her and the joint forces of Gaul, Victoria, and Leithanien.[2][3][4][5] And unlike the other Sarkaz Lords, he goes as far as to refer himself as her old friend, which she does not deny. Nezzsalem claims he has spent the last few centuries consuming the flesh of his enemies and watching countless Sarkaz heroes rise and fall, thereby Kal'tsit refers to him as one. Being a Nachzehrer himself, Nezzsalem can make use of death and decay Arts which is horrible enough to deter even his fellow Sarkaz, and can absorb the power of others by consuming their flesh. All these make him a powerful opponent that even Patriot, the last true Wendigo, could be suppressed by him. On a more lighthearted side, he seems to be interested in agriculture, especially turnips.[6]

It is implied Nezzsalem might have encountered the Deathless Black Snake at some point, as Kashchey references both him and the Sanguinarch during his battle with Amiya and Ch'en at the very end of Chernobog Crisis.[7]

A Kazdelian Rescue

A part of Nezzsalem's memories was seen by Nymph when she accidentally touched one of Qalaiša's experiment. They conversed briefly before the effect of experiment ended early.

Trivia

  • Nezzsalem is a combination of nes (נֵס), Hebrew for "miracle" or "flag, banner,"[8] and salem/shalam (שָׁלַם), an alternative spelling for the Hebrew word shalom (שָׁלוֹם), meaning "peace." Hence, his name has the meaning of "Miracle/Banner of Peace."
