The Apostolic Knights, also known as the Apostolic Gun-Knights, are an organization in Arknights. They are supporting characters in The Blessed Story arc after previously mentioned in Blaze's Archive Files.

Background[edit]

The Apostolic Knights are a band of Sankta spec ops soldiers who act independently from the Lateran Curia, serving as bodyguards of His Holiness, the Pope, while taking direct orders from him. They're usually the most skilled shooters/marksmen in Laterano, known for using destructive firearms, especially rotary machine guns as tall as an average person —A considerable feat that anyone who has attempted to use them has grasped.[1] Rumor says that no one could withstand the forces of three Gun-Knights at the same time.[2] Even Patriot, once a powerful and renowned Captain of Ursus, admired the Gun-Knights' strength even though he could easily defeat them.[3]

The Apostolic Knights serve as commanders-in-chief of each Pontifica Cohors Lateran detachment, and are authorized to select elite soldiers and form special task forces during emergencies.[1] Despite their reputation, the Apostolic Knights do have a humane and humorous side. Similar with the Pope, the Gun-Knights have a laid-back attitude and even love bombarding streets and buildings, a part of Laterano's bizarre culture. While the Gun-Knights are all Sankta, they raised up young Fiammetta and trained her to use Sankta guns so that she will become the first non-Sankta Gun-Knight. Even when Fiammetta continues to refuse this offer, they still reserve the seat so that she will pick it up in the future. [4]

Story[edit]

Guide Ahead[edit]

The Apostolic Knights are first seen entering the Basillica to announce the arrival of His Holiness, the Pope, during the eve of the 1099 Summit of Nations.[5] Later on, a Knight rushes to the Basillica's guestroom to inform Yvangelista that Mostima wants to share Cecelia's medical diagnosis with him, interrupting his discussion with Oren Argiolas and Velliv.[6]

An Apostolic Knight named Giovanni was present when Fiammetta met with the Pope to inform about her encounter with Andoain. Due to the danger that he represents, in addition to Cecelia's unusual traits, Giovanni proposes declaring a state of emergency amidst the Summit of Nations, even though Velliv put this in question since it could lead to mass hysteria amongst the foreign envoys. However, the conversation topic later changes when Mostima mentions the conference's banquet, and how she finds the cactus tarts atrocious, which flattens Giovanni.[7]

After Cecelia rang the Tower of Revelations, Gun-Knight Talvadore rushes to the Basillica to see the Pope, who was still praying. Suddenly, an explosion alerts him, but the clergy thinks it's just yet another prank of the citizens. But things began to change drastically as Talvadore receives urgent reports from the Pontifica Cohors; Not only the Pathfinders have instigated unrest across Laterano but also attacked the village where the envoys were stationed. Velliv comes across Talvadore, and orders him to defend the envoys at the village alongside the other Gun-knights. Elsewhere, Gun-Knight Paolario was dispatched by the Pope to rendezvous with Cecelia and Ezell at the Tower of Revelations and tells them to follow him to the Basillica.[8]

In the aftermath of Yvangelista and Andoain's showdown, Paolario arrives at the scene and apologizes for not fulfilling his duties correctly. Yvangelista reassures him, claiming that he was simply "exercising his wrist." After being escorted by Paolario, Ezell and Cecelia enter the Basillica.[9]

Hortus de Escapismo[edit]

Many Apostolic Knights are present for Federico's canonization as a Lateran Saint. Before the ceremony, Gun-Knight Giovanni frets over the wisdom of appointing a new Saint after so long. He states that by doing so, Federico will gain authoritative powers previously exclusive to the Pope. After Yvangelista XI soothes his worries, Giovanni presumably joins the other Knights.[10]
