Erendel and Estara are NPCs in Arknights. They are supporting characters in Hortus de Escapismo.
Background[edit]
Erendel and Estara are two children who live in the Sanctilaminium Ambrosii. They were abandoned by their parents at a young age and left to wander the wastelands until they nearly died. They were later rescued by a Sarkaz named Hyman who brought them inside the monastery, despite the place being at full capacity. As such, their existence is unknown to most of the monastery's residents besides Gerald.[1]
Story[edit]
Hortus de Escapismo[edit]
Erendel and Estara left their house in search of their missing mother, Hyman. While wandering the monastery, they run into Arturia at the sacrarium.[2] Arturia proceeds to tell them a story that alluded to Laterano's attitude towards the Sarkaz. The two children complain that they didn't like the story, so Arturia decides to tell them another one that alludes to Federico.[3]
The two are instructed by Arturia to wait in the sacrarium for a "really scary big man with a black ring on his head," as she told them he would help them find Hyman. If the man didn't come, they would need to leave the sacrarium. When Federico arrives, they are unsure whether to trust him but decide to believe in Arturia's story. While relaying her words, a fire suddenly breaks out in the sacrarium, and Federico immediately brings the two kids to safety.[4]
Later that night, Federico brings Erendel and Estara to the Sarkaz's residential area. As they walk through the dim alleyways, the two complain about being hungry and sleepy. Federico tells them that this is because food is one of people's most basic needs. When they ask if their mom is hurting because she hasn't been eating, Federico bluntly concurs, which causes them to break down in tears. Realising his mistake, Federico promises that he would help look for their mother in the morning. Gerald then tells Raimund to bring the two kids for supper and bring them to sleep in Hyman's house. Before leaving, Estara quickly kisses Federico's cheek to thank him.[1]
That night, while Erendel and Estara were sleeping, their transformed mother quietly enters their house. Sensing her presence, the two sleeping kids instinctively lean towards her.[1] When the two wake up, they are delighted to find a new blanket with a Lateran pattern left behind by their mother, and rush to tell Federico the good news.[5] When they arrive at the Sacrarium, they do not find him nor Arturia, but instead a deceased Clément Dubois. Erendel recognises him as the gardener who used to plant the flowers in the sacrarium. Estara decides to cover him with a blanket so that he won't get cold, thinking that he was asleep.[6]
After the incident, the two continue to stay at the monastery as it prepares to re-embark for Laterano. It is likely that they will come under care of new foster parents once they arrive at the Holy City.[7] Federico opts not to tell either of them about what really happened to Hyman.
