Gerald is an NPC in Arknights. He is a major supporting character in Hortus de Escapismo.

Background

Gerald is an old hunter and the leader of a band of former Sarkaz mercenaries living in the Sanctilaminium Ambrosii. A sturdy, yet solemn man, he has been taking part of various activities within the monastery, and despite not seeing himself as a community leader, or at the very least an important person, he's well respected within the monastery's inhabitants.

Back in Kazdel, Gerald, then known by his real name, Holst Tyfindale, earned his reputation as a cold-blooded mercenary who fought in the most recent civil war. With a criminal record of 32 confirmed crimes, including the annihilation of three Lateran Executor Maniples, Gerald became a target of the Notarial Hall. However, the more he realized the dire situation Kazdel was in, the more dissapointed he was with Kazdel, not to mention how he couldn't see the promised future that Theresa promised to the Sarkaz. Gerald and his group left Kazdel and wandered the barrenlands for a decade, hoping to escape from the flames of war. Without any supplies or ammunition, Gerald eventually found the Sanctillaminum Ambrossi and had no choice but to contact with the residents, who were initially reluctant of his presence. However, their survival instinct made them leave their differences aside and treat them as part of the community, and by the time the first bloom season arrived, their relationship improved significantly. The monastery's bishop, Stefano Torregrossa, provided him housing in exchange of their services. As time passed, Geralt and his fellows helped on defending the monastery from bandits, as well as with other problems such as food supplying. However, the arrival of Laterano's envoys to contact and reclaim the monastery would make him consider his departure, as the Holy City wasn't going to accept the Sarkaz.

At one point, Gerald and his deceased partner, Eileen, rescued Clément Dubois from a group of bandits who wanted to throw him down a canyon. It was Eileen who insisted Gerald on saving him, and from that day onward, Clément feels grateful after he saved his life.
