Baird
Baird is an NPC in Arknights. She is first mentioned in Episode 10 before appearing as a major supporting character in Episode 12.
Background[edit]
Baird is a member of the Glasgow gang known for her signature butterfly knife. She's a more level-headed woman in comparison to Indra.
Unlike the rest of the gang, Baird decided to stay back in Norport after Vina and her friends destroyed a shipment of Originium weapons from the Duke of Cavendish.[1]
Story[edit]
Episode 12[edit]
Baird together with Cador had been helping the people of Norport from the Sarkaz since the invasion started. She had also been stockpiling and rationing food in the gym, but the war kept getting worse and their stock was decreasing quickly. After a brief reunion with Siege, the gang decided to leave Norport for good to avoid the war[2]
Baird met her end when she was trying to rescue McClaren, the owner of video shop she often frequented.[3]. A huge fire in Norport had spread to a lot of buildings, the video shop included. Baird tried to enter the shop and get McClaren out, but he had already become insane from starvation and oripathy. McClaren thought Baird was trying to get his canned food and stabbed her with his knife. He then stole her butterfly knife and left her to die there.
Ending a Grand Overture[edit]
Four years earlier, Baird was part of the drinking games that Glasgow was organizing, placing a bet on how many Victorian cities Indra could mention despite having never left Londinium. Later that day, a panicked worker comes to the Sloberknocker Gym to inform that another one of his collegues was "silenced" after submiting a complain against the new foreman, Johnny, who's receiving backing from a relative of the Duke of Cavendish. Baird tells Indra to calm down and argues that they must come up with a plan as soon as possible. After knocking down Johhny, Baird and the girls discover a shipment full of Originium weapons with Cavendish's name listed on it, which they decide to burn them down alongside the factory.[1]
Things get more complicated when a guest of the Cavendish estate, Earl Morrill, comes across Glasgow and immediately recognizes Vina as the orphan heir of the late Alistair II, only to be beaten down by her. The fire at the factory alarms the Royal Police, forcing Glasgow to leave Londinium before the situation escalates further. However, Baird decides to stay at Norport and take care of the Sloberknocker Gym, so that one day she could welcome them once they return to Londinium. News of the incident catches Allerdale's attention, who's also aware of Vina's past. She decides to try finding her at the Sloberknocker Gym, but Baird tells her she's out on a trip. Allerdale asks if she could send her best wishes to Vina if she could, to which she accepts.[1]
Two months after the Victorian Crisis, Cador retrieved her butterfly knife from the body of a dead janitor, but couldn't find her remains, while Indra notices Baird's graffitis on the gym's wall. Indra, Dagda and Morgan later mourned her death.[4]
