Ace is an NPC in Arknights. He is a supporting character in the Prologue, Episode 01 and the Babel event.

Background[edit]

Ace is a former member from Babel and one of Rhodes Island's Elite Ops. A Phidia man as sturdy as a fortress, his combat prowess and role as a Defender Operator earned him the recognition as the backbone for each action team's operations. He always carries his siganture heavy-duty shield —made of special materials— and is the only Operator allowed to do so freely. As long as he held his head high, no Operator under his guidance would result injured for no reason.[1][2]

Prior to the Chernobog Crisis, Ace shared a strong combat camaraderie Blaze, Rosmontis, and Scout.[3] He was also Beagle and Blaze's senior when they first joined R.I. and helped the later in combat training together with Mechanist.[2][4][5]

Story[edit]

Prologue[edit]

After escaping from the Sarcophagus' premises amidst R.I.'s mission to recover the Doctor from Chernobog, the extraction team meets up with Ace. Initially, he is unaware that the Doctor is suffering from amnesia until Amiya informed Ace; nevertheless, he remains loyal to them.[6]

As the R.I. forces shoot their way through the Reunion fighters led by Crownslayer and Mephisto all over Chernobog, they end up being surrounded and pinned down until Nearl saved them. When Nearl is overwhelmed by Faust's sniper fire, Ace manages to pinpoint his position and orders R.I. snipers to fire on him.[7]

Episode 01[edit]

As the situation grows desperate, which culminated in a Catastrophe that lays waste to much of Chernobog and Talulah personally confronting the R.I. forces, Ace chooses to make his stand alongside Guard and a number of R.I. soldiers to allow Amiya, the Doctor, and the remainder of the R.I. forces to escape. He believes that despite the Doctor's past, they will have to face the path ahead of R.I. together, and tells the Doctor to cherish Amiya.[8]

In the resulting clash, only Ace and Guard survive, but it comes with the cost of losing one arm. After giving some medical aid to Guard, Ace decides to confront Talulah for one last time on his own. In the end, he is slain by Talulah after holding out long enough for the rescue operation to succeed.[9]

Vigilo[edit]

During his days in Babel, Ace made a bet with Scout and them on the purpose of an old, red machine, received it from a slum. He felt that it was nothing but some industrial garbage, but Scout believed that there was something worthful that caused the slum inhabitants to live around it. Together, they promised that they would find out the mystery after the civil war was over.

The two will never fulfill their promise. By the time the amnesiac Doctor returns, they figure out that the machine is a vending machine with a bottle of beer, Spontaneously, they leave the beer beside Ace's shield as a commemoration.[5]

A1 Operations Preparation Detachment[edit]

Beagle lifts Ace's sturdy shield, proving that she could one day become as reliable as him

Prior to the fateful Chernobog operation, Ace, alongside his squadmates Kerg, Seventeen and Greenpea, find Beagle sitting listless in the hallway, who has just finished training. After ordering his squadmates to get some rest first, he asks her if there was something wrong, to which Beagle replies that she feels scared since the A1 Squad is about to be dispatched on their first official mission. As the only Defender Operator in the squad, protecting her comrades has become her uttermost responsibility.[2]

Ace asks her if she wants to try lifting his shield, something that requires at the evry least three people to do so. To everyone's surprise, including Ace's squadmates who were carefully peeping from the corner, Beagle manages to lift the shield despite it's weight. Nevertheless, Ace tells her that she has the potential to become a great Defender Operator. Sadly, Ace would lose his life at Talulah's hands.[2]

Legacy[edit]

Ace's sacrifice ensures the safety of the rest of R.I. forces as well as the survival of Amiya and the Doctor so that they could escape from Chernobog and return to the Rhodes Island landship. Amiya, Dobermann, Nearl, and Medic are all affected by Ace's demise, but choose to move on, knowing that his sacrifice is not in vain.[10]

In order to cherish his legacy, Beagle comes to the landship's Integrated Bioprocessing Unit every week to clean Ace's shield. She hopes to one day be able to completly lif the shield and become a bullwark for her comrades.[2][5]
