Pelipper Brown
Pelipper Brown is an NPC in Arknights. He is a supporting character in So Long, Adele and the Siesta Vacation arc of Angelina: Sketches of This Messenger's Journey.
Background[edit]
The owner of a local hot spring hotel whose hobby is to collect obsidian. He is the son of the bankrupt Siestan tycoon Beat Brown, who had died several years ago due to Oripathy. Though he refers to his father as a scary old man and far from a good person, he acknowledges that his mines created many jobs, albeit with lackluster protective measures for the miners. After the banning of obsidian mining, he closed down his mines.[1]
As a friend of Barbara Doykos, he and other workers prepared an unpolished geode of great value as a gift to celebrate her child's birth and to express their gratitude. In the end, Barbara never received the gift as she died in childbirth. Years later, he would later meet Barbara's daughter, Ceylon, finally gifting the geode to her.[2]
Story[edit]
So Long, Adele[edit]
A bored Pelipper becomes excited when Adele asks about "Obsidian" in the hotel's name, immediately inviting her to see his collection. However, he becomes bored again when she asks whether his collection is for sale, writing her off as "one of the uncouth fools." Kahn interjects, stating that Pelipper knows how to obtain obsidian despite the banning of obsidian mining, and that they only need a few recent samples for research. Pelipper adamantly rejects them, but decides to inform Adele of one of his sources of obsidian, later revealed to be Enis.[3][4]
Swire negotiates with Pelipper, intending to rent his hotel and modify the hot springs. As he is uninterested in money, she shows him a photo — a piece of exhibit-grade obsidian. Though initially distrustful, he decides to sign a contract with her.[5] Swire asks about his interest in obsidian, then questions his relation to Beat Brown, a bankrupt Siestan tycoon. Pelipper is uncomfortable at the mention of his father, stating that the man died from Oripathy years ago and that he wasn't a good man. After the banning of obsidian mining, his mines were the first to shut down. Swire leaves, not before asking about a geode, unpolished unlike the rest of his collection. Enis questions the workers of an illegal mining operation, mentioning Pelipper as a potential buyer, but the worker denies it, revealing that it had been years since Pelipper stopped buying from them.[6]
Ceylon tracks down and requests Pelipper's help with the Infected workers, threatening to destroy his collection when he remains uncooperative. He dejectedly explains that there's little he can do to change the situation, to which Ceylon vehemently denies. Pelipper is reminded of a scholar he had met in his youth, who was similarly passionate in working for the welfare of the Infected workers. He is surprised at learning Ceylon's name, and reveals himself to be a friend of her mother, Barbara Doykos. He excitedly calls his other friends over, workers who were also friends of Barbara, to Ceylon's confusion. He brings out an unpolished obsidian geode of great value, a gift of gratitude they had prepared for Barbara for her child's birth. In the end, Barbara never received the gift due to her death. Unseen to him, a little sheep lightly pushes the geode, causing him to panic when it almost fell, fearing it will shatter.[2]
He is mentioned to have sold several of his shops to a foreign group, implied to be Swire as she later built a waterpark in Siesta.[7]
Schwarz: Just Another Day[edit]
He is sought out by Schwarz to investigate illegal obsidian mining operations, having heard of him from Ceylon. Initially reluctant, he eventually agrees to help, convinced that assisting Schwarz is helping Ceylon as well, which he had promised to do. His concern prompts him to alert Ceylon of the situation in the mines, leading to her unexpected arrival at the conclusion of the operation.[8]
