The Liberi (singular and plural) are an Ancient race in the world of Arknights.

Description[edit]

"Liberi" is an umbrella term referring to any Ancient and Elder race with feathers growing on their hair and structures resembling tail feathers on their torsos, or feather-like features, which results in some races who are biologically not Liberi to be categorized as Liberi subgroups due to their feathers. Along with feathers, they also possess a good sense of hearing and eyesight.[2][3] Generally speaking, Liberi are a medium-sized race with females being slightly shorter. Their physical fitness is relatively average at best, and they are considerably lighter in weight than other races.[4]

Along with the Perros and Felines, Liberi are a predominant race on Terra having many Ancient and Elder branches. The most famous of the Elder Liberi are the Hippogryphs, the former ruling class of the Empire of Hippogryph that was later overthrown by the Ursine rebels led by Igor the Great in Terran year 31. Due to its complexity and its enormous population that gives birth to many different cultures, many Liberi anthropologists urge to further divide the Liberi into different new races, but oppositions argue that cultural differences should not be mixed with biological traits.[4]

Because of the abundant population, Liberi can be found in almost all the Terran nations. Of all nations, Iberia has the largest population of Liberi as its predominant race, and both Laterano and Columbia have a vast majority of them. Following the independence of Columbia in 1019, a large number of Liberi immigrants across Terra was absorbed into the newborn country. According to a Liberi immigrant census published by Columbian authorities, the reason for their decision to settle in Columbia is not only for the possibility of starting a new life, but also the mysterious charisma of President Mark Max who has become a popular figure among Liberi communities.[4] The Lateran Liberi population are descendants of homeless refugees fleeing from Catastrophes that settled at the outskirts of Laterano and later integrated into the Sankta's society after adopting their religious faith.[5] Some of these Lateran Liberi clergies later departed Laterano to settle at the southern coastlines of Terra where they founded Iberia in hope to create a second paradise on the shores.[6] Aside from these three countries, Gaul was once ruled by a dynasty of Liberi before its disintegration in the War of the Four Nations.[7]

Trivia[edit]

  • Currently Hellagur and Archetto are the only Liberi who are based on bird-like legendary creatures (hippogriff and griffin, respectively).
  • Out of all races, the Liberi have the most characters classified as such, tied with the Felines and Sarkaz.
