Old Isin
Old Isin is an NPC in Arknights. He is a supporting character in A Walk in the Dust and a major supporting character in Fire Within the Sand.
Background
Although Isin seems to be an old, mysterious soothsayer, he actually once served the Padishah of Reefsteep who possessed the blood of the Nightzmoran Kheshigs. Isin served as a court jester for the Padishah, but his amaze on him led him astray to a point that he allowed the Nightzmora's Arts to erase most of his memories. As a matter of fact, the old man always believed that he was the Padishah's most beloved guardian.[1]
After the destruction of the nomadic city of Reefsteep by a Catastrophe, Old Isin stayed back inside the Padishah's mansion. Since then, he had witnessed the rebuilding of Reefsteep into a black market. It was during that moment he started to gain connection with the marketeers and also disguised himself as a soothsayer.
Story
A Walk in the Dust
When Kal'tsit and Elliot arrived at an unknown town in Sargon twenty-two years ago, they encountered locals who detested the Columbians. In order to avoid them, they hid inside a bazaar where they met Isin. With her eyes, Kal'tsit knew that Isin was not a simple man. That night, she requested Isin to help them get out of Sargon. Isin agreed and told her to pay him a gold coin as a fee, but he prophesied that she must pay it back twenty-two years later.[2]
The next day, Kal'tsit left the mansion together with Mon3tr in order to battle with the Sarkaz mercenaries sent by Padishah Murad. As Old Isin and Elliot were watching the fight from afar, Elliot questioned whether they should help her. On the other hand, Isin trusted in her faithfully. He wanted Kal'tsit to stay alive so that she may help him recover his past memories.[3]
After leading the two to the black market of Reefsteep, Old Isin asked Kal'tsit whether she remembered anything relating to the Padishah he once served. He also described to her the grand conquest of the Foehn Hotlands and the tents of the Kheshigs, which surprised Kal'tsit. With that, he remembered most of his past and mourned that he was nothing but a fool for the Padishah. Trying to comfort him, Kal'tsit told him that he had fallen in the trap by the Nightzmoran's Arts, which led to his amnesia.[1]
Before the departure, Kal'tsit gave Elliot the choice to follow her to Ursus or stay back in Sargon. Elliot struggled inside himself and finally chose the latter out of vengence for his professor. At the same time, Old Isin promised her to take good care.[1]
Three years ago before the main plot of Arknights, Old Isin had another dream with slight differences. This time, he saw Kal'tsit staying beside the Padishah during the grand conquest of the Foehn Hotlands. Being excited by the dream, Old Isin wanted to revive the past glory of Sargon and decided to embark on a journey to the legendary "Golden City." Since then, Old Isin was said to be "lost to the golden sands" and never returned.[4]
