—Ji's business motto

Ji is an NPC in Arknights. He is the main antagonist in Here A People Sows and a supporting character in Such is the Joy of Our Reunion.

Background[edit]

Ji is the seventh of the Sui "siblings", known for his impeccable business acumen and skill with fabric. A shrewd and calculating businessman - he views everything that happens in life as either profit and loss. He wields the power of weaving, and is capable of creating the most wondrous of garments using any material, as well as creating mythical beasts made out of his fabric, which he can summon at will, and even weave abstract concepts into physical beings.[1]

Ji lived together with his elder sister Shu and Shennong in a small village on Yan's northern border, which would later become Dahuang. Ji enjoyed much of his early life there, weaving garments for Shennong and the other villagers. At an unknown point in time, Ji left Dahuang. He met an astute merchant while trading some grains and was impressed by his wisdom, and thus decided to join him.[2] After that, he visited Dahuang occasionally, with the last time he visited Dahuang being in the Terran year 1035.[note 1]

Ji learned much of his business skills and tactics from the merchant. He believes that everything can be bought or sold, as long as given an "appropriate price". Later, he developed a business empire that expanded all throughout Yan. Because of this, the Sui Regulator keeps a particularly close eye on him, but so far has never been able to find anything wrong with his business practices.[3]

During the Baizao accident, Ji ordered a meal from Yu's restaurant, where he met Blaze when she came to deliver his meal. As Yu' s restaurant is located on Ji's land, and Ji leased the land to him, Yu is therefore indebted to him. However, Yu's debt is lessened with each meal he cooks for Ji.

Ji is currently colluding with his elder brother, Wang, in a bid to revive the bestial Sui. Ji also supported and revealed Wang's plan to Zuo Le when they met again in Baizao. Ji then meets Wang, who thanks him for his support and tells him to go on his own path.[4]

Trivia[edit]

  • His name means "hemp thread" in Chinese, which is also used to mean "achievement".[5]
  • His birthday is not directly mentioned, but the regularity of his siblings' birthdays and the mention of him getting older after Xiaoshu indicate that it is July 7th in reference to the Qīxī Festival(七夕) in the lunar calendar.[6]

Notes[edit]

  1. Ning Ciqiu mentioned that he returns to Dahuang once every few decades and that his last visit was almost sixty years ago. Shu also mentioned that it had been 67 years since Ji left Dahuang. Since Here A People Sows takes place in the year 1102, this puts his last visit at 1035.
