Description
Looking at the boy in front of her, Ch'en is somewhat taken aback.
"Your mother? Smuggling?"
"Yes. But she was forced into it by my dad."
"And you want me to save her?"
"My dad and his associates will be waiting for her in the square."
"How do you know that?"
"...I used to be the one helping him with this." The boy gritted his teeth. "My dad once promised that after making enough money, he'd take my mom and me on a cruise, and we could see a rainbow over the sea from there. But he never kept his word. He just kept chasing dirty money, forcing me to work with him, and now he wants to drag my mom down with him too. I can't stand it anymore."
Ch'en notices bruises on the boy's neck. With her years of experience, she instantly knew he was telling the truth.
"...Don't worry. If what you say is true, I'll make sure your father and his crew get the punishment they deserve."
At the word "punishment," the boy, who had kept his head down, suddenly looks up. "Does prison really change people?"
"...Why do you ask?"
"My dad wasn't like this before. Ever since we came to Dossoles, he's been obsessed with making money. I don't even know when he changed... maybe he's always been this way. But I can't forget the look in his eyes when he first told me he'd take me on a cruise to see a rainbow."
Looking at the boy, Ch'en is reminded of her past self. Back then, she had always wanted a certain someone to notice her sword. But at some point, she stopped hoping for that.
"This city is surrounded by water. Rainbows should be easy to find here. Haven't you seen enough of them?"
"...No. I have to see a rainbow with him, on a cruise; nothing else counts."
Yes, it only counts if he's there.
"Hah. And you still want that, even now?"
"Yeah." There is a faint glimmer of hope in the boy's eyes, but it quickly fades. "But I can't do it alone."
Ch'en is silent for a moment, then grabs her water gun and walks in the direction the boy had indicated. Before going, she leaves him with a final piece of advice.
"Then you'll have to find a way to make your father listen to you. Make him understand that you want him to change... At the very least, let him know what you're thinking."
That day, there was a sudden downpour in Dossoles. In the rain, Ch'en saved a woman from a group of criminals and subdued the culprits.
Strangely, just as the gang leader was about to fight back, a child suddenly stepped between him and Ch'en. The rain had stopped at some point, and a rainbow arched across the sky. Beneath it, the gang leader hesitated, and the child seemed to say something to him. Finally, the leader lowered his weapon.
Witnesses nearby reported that, although Ch'en had successfully resolved another smuggling case, she didn't seem happy. She simply looked off to the east, lost in thought.

她舒了一口气,然后开始盘算,接下来要做些什么。
上午,她答应了斯维特拉娜,去看看刚修好的工坊,然后和她一起烘焙饼干。
中午,老米哈伊尔请她去家里吃午饭。她想顺道请这位老工匠帮她修一下那件蒸汽骑士模型——一个维多利亚人送的礼物。
下午,她要跟老米哈伊尔一起去田里看看。为了消灭害虫,她跟老米哈伊尔研究了好几天怎么用她那把水铳喷洒农药,今天是测试的日子。
晚上......对了,信使今天会来这座镇子,多索雷斯那边的信也该来了。他们比她想象的要热情,经常写信给她汇报近况......她打算给他们制定一套新的训练计划。对了,再写封信给文月夫人报个平安吧。
真忙。这么想着,她迈开了脚步,这时,一个青年拦住了她。
青年是斯维特拉娜的儿子,镇子自卫团的一员,陈在之前代替自卫团做了一些事,从那以后,青年就一直想要拜她为师。
“告诉我怎么才能变得像你这样强吧,陈姐!”
“回去坚持每天挥剑吧。”
陈并没有骗青年。
对陈晖洁来说,练剑曾是生活的头等大事。在龙门时,无论风吹雨打,或是有再多公务,她总要抽出时间练剑。
“可是,你来我们镇子这么久,我从没见过你练剑。”
青年的话让陈微微一愣,她忽然想起来,自己确实有段时间没有练剑了。
不知何时起,这件事对她来说没有那么重要了,或者说,没有那么紧迫了。她今天的那些安排和练剑同样重要——
她忽然意识到,自己过去并不会这么想。
但是,当她想到过去的自己,想到那个不断想要证明什么的陈晖洁时,她发现,自己有一种难以言喻的自信——
现在的赤霄一定比过去更利。
不,是她的剑一定比过去更利。
“你想看吗?”
“欸?”
在青年的眼中,奇妙的一幕发生了。陈只是换了一个姿势,仅仅是这样一动,上一秒,她的手中还空无一物,但此时,他却看到了一柄“剑”出现在她的手中。
这柄“剑”让青年产生了巨大的危机感,他忍不住想要逃离,然而,他感觉自己无法行动,只能眼睁睁地看着那柄“剑”挥向自己。他忍不住闭上了眼。
“剑”当然没有挥向青年,陈只是拍了拍他的肩膀。
“走吧,你的母亲在等我们呢。”
青年这才睁开眼,远处,母亲斯维特拉娜正站在田埂上招呼他们去工坊。陈先一步向着斯维特拉娜走去,青年急匆匆地跟上陈的脚步,兴奋地问道:
“陈姐,只要每天坚持挥剑,我也能做到你刚才那样吗?”
“不够,还要走路,走很多很多的路。”
陈抬头看了看天,今天日头正好,是个出行的好天气。
