Unwittingly transformed into an avian monster by the Sarcophagus, Mephisto acts as one of the bosses in Episode 08 under the name Mephisto, "The Singer" (hence referred to as the Singer to distinguish it from Mephisto).

Enemy description
You seem to recognize the mysterious, mythical beast that has descended from the Sarcophagus. An otherworldly song flows from its sharp beak and floods its surroundings. It seems to devour the will of the Infected around it, including its own. Even if it knows not what it is doing, its song does not cease. It simply wishes to sing.

Overview

A warped creature bathed in torment. Cannot be blocked and releases toxic dust upon losing a certain amount of HP.

The Singer has a massive HP and respectable RES, although its ATK and DEF are on the low side, and it still retains Mephisto's ability to heal other enemies and have the following abilities that make it more threatening — unlike Mephisto, the Singer now have the means to attack/damage friendly units:

  • Instead of moving at pre-determined paths as other enemies do, the Singer teleports itself to locations along its path over 2.42 seconds (1.42 seconds at Level 1); how long it remains in each position varies depending on the operation where it appears.
    • The Singer is invulnerable and can neither be blocked nor shifted, and is immune to movement speed debuffs while teleporting.
    • However, the Singer actually moves when it enters a Protection Objective.
  • As long as the Singer is present, all Possessed enemies will have their ATK and ASPD increased by 10% and 10, respectively, signified by a red aura around them.
  • The Singer's attack can hit up to two targets within range at once.
  • Releases a healing white cloud which restores the HP of up to three enemies anywhere on the map (except the Singer itself) equal to its ATK with a cooldown of 10 seconds.
  • Releases a toxic white cloud whenever the Singer loses 20% of its maximum HP that lasts for 30 seconds, which deals 50 (80 at Level 1) True damage every second to all friendly units, even those deployed after the toxic cloud is released. There is a brief delay before the toxic cloud is released when the Singer uses it, during which it is invulnerable, and the cloud will dissipate when the Singer leaves the map.
    • If the Singer releases multiple toxic clouds in quick succession, each cloud has their own timers but the damage will stack additively; up to 5 toxic cloud instances may be active at a time.
  • When its HP reaches 0 for the first time, the Singer fully restores its HP over a short time and enters the dormant state for ~100 seconds or until its HP is reduced to 0, whichever comes first, during which the Singer is disabled and the Possessed buff (see above) is disabled as well, but protected by a barrier that increases its DEF and RES by 2200 and 50, respectively, and restores 200 HP every second.
    • Any damage dealt to the Singer in the dormant state will carry over to its second phase (see below), but the Singer will always enter the second phase with at least 50% of its maximum HP.
  • Once the dormant state ends, the Singer enters the second phase (signified by the increased mist density around it and its halo turning bright white instead of black) with the following properties:
    • Invulnerable for 2.6 seconds, indicated by a yellow aura surrounding the Singer.
    • ATK increased by 20%.
    • The Possessed buff is increased to +20% ATK and +20 ASPD.
    • The Singer now releases its toxic cloud attack instantly whenever it loses 15% of its maximum HP.

Who can truly choose their own life?
Clearing M8-8 without defeating the Singer (i.e. letting it into a Protection Objective) will unlock EG-3. Note that the Singer will deduct 2 Life Points when leaked, so try to pull this off after clearing M8-8 with 3 stars for the first time to avoid errors.
