Zeruertza is a Durinese subterranean city.

Background

Located right under the jungles of Acahualla in Sargon. Zeruertza, like other Durinese cities, is a technologically advanced place built by Finch Canvas, the genius architect and the city's former design representative. It possesses a dome that could replicate the temperature of the surface world and an Originium detector that could warn of encroaching Originium veins. A giant elevator named "Super Convenient Lift-o-Matic #1" acts as the only gateway between Zeruertza to the outside world, even though its original purpose was to extract the mineral veins above before the discovery of another vein nearby.[1] There is also a library that holds many books, including those from the surface world written by surface adventurers – most notably older issues of the "Stranger Things" Terran pulp fiction magazine that is quite popular among the Zeruertzans, and a public forum where the Zeruertzans hold referendums to decide important matters regarding the city through popular vote.

During the previous summer, an earthquake suddenly struck Zeruertza. The earthquake caused part of the city's dome to collapse and waters from an underground spring that rushed from an opening in the dome to flood Zeruertza's only railroad and block the city's tunnel. Worst of all, the earthquake also damaged Zeruertza's Originium detector and temperature regulation system, causing the city to be stuck in a never-ending summer.[2] Nevertheless, the Zeruertzans did not panic and instead built a tropical resort surrounding the flooded area, now christened as the "Great Aquapit", where they could enjoy this predicament. Even so, the breached dome causes a headache to one of Finch's protégés Stitch Canvas who sees it as a blasphemy towards his mentor.

Unbeknownst to the Zeruertzans due to their prolonged neglection and the damaged Originium detector, an active Originium vein slowly encroaches Zeruertza from the flooded tunnels, which would eventually unleashes a destructive chain reaction upon the city.[3] Upon this discovery, the Zeruertzans migrated en masse to Acahualla under Gavial's suggestion and settles there (while remaining unnoticed by Sargonian Padishas and Lords Ameer thanks to Inam) as well as entering a fruitful mutual cooperation with the Acahuallans, but not before refurnishing the entire Zeruertza, including repairing the dome, under the Durins' belief that if their city is to be destroyed, it should meet its end in the best shape possible.

Great Aquapit

The Great Aquapit, pre-decommissioning

The "Great Aquapit" is a tropical resort built around the lake created by the falling water from the damaged Zeruertzan dome under the suggestion of Catch Lightrace. Towering slides, fountains, and Ferris wheels were constructed on the spot where water pours down into the lake. The locals even set up food stalls to sell their delicious recipes. Numerous festivals are held there as well like beach volleyballs, beer contests, and musical festivals. Gradually, the Aquapit has become the city's greatest hallmark.

The Great Aquapit, post-decommissioning

However, the Great Aquapit stands in the way for the Zeruertzans to repair the dome and railroad tunnel, causing any notion to decommission it to become subject of heated debate. Eventually, as part of a competition between Catch and Stitch, the Zeruertzans voted in favor of the Aquapit's decommissioning out of boredom. After allowing the Zeruertzans including Gavial and co. to enjoy it for one last time, the Aquapit is torn down through a controlled demolition.[4]

Addendum
  • Croque Diamondface is the mayor of Zeruertza.
  • Pozëmka, real name Avdotya Razorpen, is a naturalized Ursine and Zeruertza's only citizen who is not a Durin.
  • R3-E3.png
R3-E3: A series of automata/robots created by Deculture Silvermint to act as community assistants for the Zeruertzans. One of them, which bears the serial number 0429, was repaired by Eunectes during her stay in Zeruertza, causing the other R3-E3s to saw the Pythia as friend. This becomes vital when Gavial tries to drag Stitch out of his depression; Deculture ordered the R3-E3s to protect Stitch, but Gavial turned the automata against him after letting them know that she is with Eunectes.
  • Finch Canvas: The previous design representative of Zeruertza, the city's well-known architect, and Stitch's and Catch's mentor. In order to test Stitch's ability, he suddenly disappeared after giving his protégé a question and leaving his farewell letter on the top of the Zeruertzan dome. Currently, he is said to have settled in another Durin city.

Etymology

Zeruertza literally means "sky boundary" in Basque, which is a combination of zeru ("sky")[5] and the singular absolutive form of ertz ("border" or "parting"),[6] ertza.
