The Ludwigs-Universität is Leithanien's oldest and most important educational institution. It was founded in the Year 739 by Ludwig von Urtica, Kurfürst of Kreis Einwald and ancestor of House Urtica, often nicknamed as "The Scholar." [2] Ludwig had an unprecedented love for knowledge and art, and tried to spread Originium Arts education to the masses to the point he's called a lunatic, even surpassing his own sense of responsability as a Kurfürst. Indeed, he was the first noble in Leithanien to turn his spire into an academy, let alone a public one. His intention was to teach anyone who was willing to learn, regardless of status, in hopes for them to "gain the most supreme knowledge, so that the land would never again impede Leithanien."[1][3][4] After the Kaiser at the time passed away, Ludwig was already considered a viable candidate due to his populartity. However, at the eve of the election day, Ludwig suddenly went insane and passed away under unknown, yet violent circumstances. Despite his death being considered one of Leithanien's most intriguing unresolved cases, Ludwig's contributions to the national education system are still cherished in Urtica, where his grave is located. Memorial activities are held in the Grafschaft from time to time.[3]
In 766, the Ludwigs-Universität received its first batch of commoner students despite the nobility's opposition. That same year, a flower bed was built beneath the university's Meister-Spire. It is said that a scholar named Hoffman secretly scattered a bag of seeds from his hometown onto the flowerbed, and white flowers began to bloom from there. Since that day, it became a tradition for scholars with common backgrounds to plant seeds from their hometowns, but in modern times, only scholars who're deeply involved with Kreis Eingeweide's history still remember this custom. Before the Battle of the Four Emperors, the flowers in the Ludwigs-Universität were described to blossom "just like in the sky above a grand event." [5]
