Skadi hears the thrill of a long unheard melody at Rhodes Island.
Following this sound, she meets Gladiia.
Yet, this former comrade swiftly disappears after little more than a glimpse.
She kidnapped Specter, leaving nothing but a name for Skadi.
"Sal Viento", a lethargic and mysterious coastal town.
There, Skadi will unravel the mystery of her and her companions' bloodline.

Call of the Abyss

Gladiia takes Specter away from Skadi

During her usual day in Rhodes Island, the Aegir bounty huntress Skadi heard a song by her fellow kind. Feeling something's off with it, Skadi hurries to check up on Specter, only to see her supposedly dead superior in the Abyssal Hunters, Gladiia, taking her away. Gladiia tells Skadi that she have her own reasons for taking Specter, and if she wishes to know why, she should come to Sal Viento, an Iberian nomadic city.

Meanwhile, terrifying aquatic monsters were spotted in the premises of the said city. An unlucky Kazimierzian bounty hunter spotted the monsters and almost became victim to their attacks, only to be saved by the Inquisitors of Iberia. Unfortunately, the Inquisitors executed him to prevent any information leaks, while a mysterious bishop and a humanoid monster discusses about an agreement between them.

Desolation

Skadi, just outside her destination: Sal Viento

After days of traveling through the badlands (and facing bounty hunters including those who runs into her before along the way), Skadi made it to Sal Viento, but noticed that the city's atmosphere is so bleak and the citizens having some oddities. No sooner as Skadi sets foot on Sal Viento, she is attacked by some suspicious citizens, but she managed to hold them off. Skadi then meets a female Liberi who were much friendlier than others, and agreed to be her guide during her stay in Sal Viento, introducing herself as Anita. Unbeknownst to Skadi, Gladiia and the mysterious bishop from before are watching her.

While Skadi walks across the shores of Sal Viento, she is accosted by more hostile inhabitants during which she lost her harp and later learned that the Sal Vientians are expecting some "gift" given by the ocean at the hundredth high tide with one of them as the "chosen", which arouses her concerns. That night, Inquisitor Irene shows up at Sal Viento and threaten the villagers for being one step closer to turn into monsters and starts searching the houses for anyone suspicious. Eventually Irene found Skadi and attacked her under the belief that she, an Aegir, is a "heretic."

"Do not run... we are your friends..."

Skadi later run into Dario the High Inquisitor who proves to be a match for her, but the battle is interrupted with the appearance of strange creatures from the sea. Skadi and Irene was forced to fight off the creatures together, and by sunrise, all of them are destroyed. In the aftermath, the Sal Vientians attempted to scavenge the monsters' remains to be consumed as food, Skadi tried to stop them, only to debate with Irene which ends with her leaving in anger.

Will of the Ocean

Skadi sings an Aegirian melody after a long time

On the shores, the Inquisitors find out that the "chosen one" turned out to be a sacrifice for the Seaborn for some unknown purpose and puts him out of his misery. Later Skadi and Anita also came to the shore and attacked by more sacrifices turned Seaborn, but the Aegir bounty huntress managed to fend them off and recovered her harp. Later that night, Skadi performs an Aegirian song in front of the Sal Vientians to entertain them, but the coming of the high tide interrupts the show as the people rushes outside and, true to what they believed, the "gifts from the ocean" had arrived in form of food.

The mysterious bishop, now known as Quintus, and Gladiia also appears before the Sal Vientians as they collect the "gifts" from the beach and gives them an uplifting sermon while Skadi used this opportunity to confront Gladiia about her actions and Specter's whereabouts, although Gladiia remains vague before leaving as Quintus finishes. Skadi later heads to the church of Sal Viento with Quintus expecting her.

The Seaborn speaker offers Gladiia to the seas

After some talk, Quintus takes Skadi and Gladiia into the church's catacombs where the former finds out that Specter is being imprisoned within a water tank as the bishop reveals that he is part of the Church of the Deep, an Aegirian cult revering the Seaborn, and had experimented on Specter in order to figure out the secrets of the Abyssal Hunters and the Aegirs' reaction to Originium. In anger, Gladiia turned against Quintus and attacks her, but was struck by the humanoid Seaborn, now known as The First To Talk, before she could hit him and seemingly dies.

The First then talks with Skadi and reveals a very shocking, disturbing fact that she and the Abyssal Hunters have the blood of the Seaborn in them, or in other words, they turned out to be Aegir-Seaborn hybrids. The revelation drove Skadi into a broken state as she was torn between accepting the fact that she is an Aegir or a Seaborn, and The First's further encouragement causes her to slowly accepting the fact that she and the Seaborn are bound in blood, and all but the same as them. Before Skadi could fully embrace her Seaborn side, however, Gladiia, who had survived The First's attack, struck it, interrupting the process.

The Hunter and the Hunted

The reunited Abyssal Hunters facing the leviathan that was once Bishop Quintus

The First reluctantly fights Gladiia despite its wish to protect the Abyssal Hunters, though Gladiia remains unconvinced. In the end, Gladiia slays The First, provoking Quintus as Specter regained her consciousness and break herself free from her tank. Cornered, Quintus transformed into a Seaborn leviathan and attacked the Hunters. Facing the Hunters in the flooded catacombs, Quintus was no match for the Hunters despite his newfound power and eventually falls before them, cursing the Hunters at his last moments and vowing to have the "ceaseless waves" devour them (though the latter is likely from the Seaborn hive mind).

"Is it all over?"
"No. It's not over yet."

The reunited Abyssal Hunters heads into the surface after the battle with Quintus, but were accosted by the remaining Seaborn until Kal'tsit shows up and destroys the church with Mon3tr, burying the sea monsters in its ruins. In the aftermath, Dario listened to Kal'tsit's explanation and warning of the greater danger that looms over Iberia. Kal'tsit also willingly let herself imprisoned in Iberia so that the Hunters can walk away freely. Before Skadi leaves Sal Viento, she exchanged few words with Irene and bids her farewell to Anita.

"I must find the Golden Ship... before it is too late."

Back in Rhodes Island, Gladiia's fear of becoming a Seaborn sooner or later made her swore to find the lost Iberian dreadnought Stultifera Navis so she could go down with the Seaborn in a blaze of glory.
