Deity Grypherburg (Божество Грифербурга) is the capital of Ursus.

Background

The capital of Deity Grypherburg has its origin as the former royal palace of the Hippogryphs. At the dawn of human civilization, the Hippogryphs constructed their first castle among the mountains in order to repel the harassment of the Teekaz. In order to build the capital, Hippogryphs enslaved many Ursi and mercilessly exploited their traits during the construction.[1]

In Terra year 11, the Empire of Hippogryph was invaded by the Nightzmoran Khaganate led by Kharanduu Khan. Even though the Hippogryphs utilized their topography to defend their homeland, the Nightzmoras manipulated the enslaved Ursi by mocking the Hippogryph regime. Furthermore, the Hippogryphs implemented a scorched earth policy to destroy Ursine settlements outside of Deity Grypherburg and their mountain castles. Eventually, those Ursi who defected to the Nightzmoras out of anger towards the Hippogryph quietly opened up the door for the Khagan to fully occupy Deity Grypherburg.[2]

Following the demise of Kharanduu Khan in Sargon. The Nightmoran troop quickly retreated from Deity Grypherburg in the year 16. The Hippogryph initiated a reconstruction project by further enforcing more than 200,000 Ursi farmers and laborers to take part in it. In the year 18, a minute rebellion occurred that took the lives of several Hippogryph supervisors. Sixty-seven Ursine rebels, including thirty soldiers who defected to the rebels' side, occupied a belfry in the capital square. The incident forced a young Ursine general serving the Hippogryphs, Igor the Great, to execute almost all the Ursine rebels on spot after having his soldiers surrounding the belfry, although there were some evidences suggested that the execution was in fact suicide after Igor persuaded them to be the first sacrifices against the Hippogryphs. Regardless, the incident fueled the populace's hatred against the Hippogryph which eventually triggered the violent revolution between the years 27 to 31 when Igor denounced the Hippogryphs and led the rebels to topple the dynasty in Deity Grypherburg. Since then, Deity Grypherburg has been converted to the presiding capital of the Ursus Empire.[3]

During the Great Rebellion between 1074 and 1076, Deity Grypherburg was laid siege by the rebelling Fourth and Sixth Armies. As the starting point of the rebellion, the Sixth Army refused to obey Emperor Fyodor Vladimirovich and sided with Third, Eighth, and Fourth Army to occupy the surrounding districts near Grypherburg and lay siege onto the capital. For the next few years, the royalist Fifth Army fought their way back from the western border near Kazimierz in order to recapture Grypherburg, resulting in a full-scale civil war across Ursine soil before it ended in the royalists' victory by the winter of 1076.[4]

Etymology

Deity Grypherburg is obviously a parallel to Saint Petersburg, the capital of the Russian Empire. In the JP sever, it is even directly called Saint Grypherburg (サンクト・グリファーブルク).
