Shar-Agade (شَهْر أَكَّدَ) is the capital of Sargon.

Background

As the capital of Sargon where the royal Aslan house and the ruling Shahanshah reside, Shar-Agade is shrouded with many mysteries. The city is given the nickname "the Golden City" (مَدِينَة الذهبية) due to its luxury in which legend has it that it is a city within a huge, fertile oasis well protected by covering sandstorms and dunes with towering buildings gilded with gold and decorated with gushing fountains. The city remains sedentary despite Sargon's advanced technology modern age and frequent Catastrophes, yet many could never find it. Many Sargonians believe that this city only exists in mythology as they could never pinpoint its exact location.[1][2]

Nevertheless, Shar-Agade does exists, albeit its location is strictly undisclosed to the public. Any chosen Padishah must first enter Shar-Agade to receive official appointment from the Shahanshah before being dispatched to their respective provinces. Commoners with outstanding achievements are offered the privilege to live to Shar-Agade, but they are strictly forbidden to leave the capital. On the other hand, those who allowed leave must keep its exact location in secret, or else they will face severe consequences from the palace, i.e., assassination, kidnapping.[2]

Etymology

Shar comes from the Persian word šahr (شَهْر), meaning "city,"[3] and Agade is the obsolete Anglicized spelling for the Sumerian city of Akkad (𒌵𒆠) whose etymology, although remaining unknown, likely means "gate" in Akkadian.[4] Hence, Shar-Agade has the meaning of "The Gate of City."
