Il Siracusano: Critica Artistica

During Il Siracusano, the player will be able to participate in Critica Artistica (Italian for "Art Critics") where the player gets to review one of five theatrical plays held in Teatro di Milano every day. Each play is premiered on the first five days of the event (e.g. the first play is premiered on Day 1); afterwards, all five plays can be viewed anytime.

Each play have ten anyonymous reviews and the player can opt to like the review to reveal the reviewer's identity, including that in the other plays. This can be done twice per day, for a maximum of 10 likes throughout the event.

Liking a character's review will give the player an item specific to each character, which is required to progress through their respective Azione Solo.

The reviews are quoted verbatim from the game and should be kept pristine. Edits and updates should be placed on other pages related to the same subject.

La Morte di Texas (9.6/10★)

A famiglia's history (8.7/10★) The demise of Famiglia Texas was a result of Siracusa's old order, yet even the fall of such a prominent famiglia did not change anything. The status quo did not change, and the famiglie continued to fight amongst each other. The new Siracusa cannot continue down this path.
Very interesting (7/10★) Some of the details are realistic, uncannily so. The playwright must have some strong opinions about Texas to come up with an ending like that.
Not bad (8.5/10★) Act III was staged successfully. Thankfully, it looks like the events of the preceding period did not interfere with the playwright's work after all. Very much looking forward to your next piece.
Liked the ending (8.5/10★) My friend starred in the show, so I went to watch her. It was good. Also, goodbye.
Ended as it should (8/10★) A satisfying ending, exactly how the story should've ended. It's basically the image I have in my mind.
Didn't get it (5/10★) I was eating popcorn in the theater and they kicked me out. Never got to finish.
No opinion (7/10★) If things really did end that way, that might've been better for a lot of people.
Very happy! (9/10★)

This show was my Siracusan debut! A lot of unexpected things happened along the way, but the final performance turned out pretty good. It looks like the audience enjoyed it too, which makes me very happy!
Unexpectedly good (8.5/10★)

An unexpectedly good ending, avoiding falling into common clichés. The youth have the power to go beyond the status quo, and see things from a broader perspective. They are the saplings of our future.
Pretty decent ending (9/10★)

It's clear that the playwright shifted her paradigm once, and this shift elevated the quality of the entire opera to another level, bringing it from a personal story with a heroic narrative style to an evocative Siracusan tale. That's enough for now. I'll save rest of my commentary for the arts papers.

Nice plot (8.2/10★) Was recommended by a friend, and don't regret it at all. After watching too many shows playing up the greatness of the famiglie, a whole lot of people come to see themselves in the great, heroic mafiosi depicted in those operas. And that's a dangerous thing.
Pretty good experience (7/10★) This is my first time using this new rating system. It was also my first time watching an opera in a theater, which was kind of strange. By the end, I was shouting along with the others. I might have to ask the author myself – what did he choose at the end? To pick up the phone, or to throw away those old rapiers?
An excellent work (8.7/10★) I just happened to stop by after work to kill some time, and I didn't expect the show to be so good. I was blown away when I saw that judge get knocked out and stuffed into the trunk. The author writes unexpected while still realistic twists, carrying a message through. Will recommend to friends.
Dark Humor (7.9/10★) A pretty good show, great for enjoying with friends. It's fun listening to them try to break down the plot. The introductions at the beginning were hard to keep track of; I was fine personally, but someone was about to doze off.
Didn't care much of it (1/10★) Pretty interesting. Not much else to say.
Unfortunate (8.5/10★)
Unknown
Unfortunately, I missed the beginning. It's something that happens more and more as you get older. Fortunately, the latter half was exciting. The last few stories all unfolded in the same little room, which was an interesting spin.
Interesting (8.5/10★) Story was very interesting, but those two crooks reminded me of some former subordinates of mine who could never follow instructions. The boss's line stuck with me: "Just don't hire idiots."
Not bad (8.9/10★)

A rarely-seen style. In somewhat ironic fashion, explores the true story of a multi-party struggle, reflecting the dark side of the famiglie's activities. Begins by introducing the backgrounds of a cast of characters, leading to the titular theme, then finally leaving the audience on a suspenseful note. Flows naturally, good show.
Amazing (9/10★)

Bring your friends! I was almost kicked out for bringing pizza to the door, but we ate it on the spot. The story's really amazing, and I want to get to know the playwright. Acting in a show like this is sure to expand my acting career!
A learning experience (8.7/10★) The playwright's creativity is worth learning from. While everyone else uses serious narratives to tell the stories of the famiglie, this author took the completely opposite approach. Moreover, a number of coincidences occur in this show, but they are presented in a way that always feels natural and not jarring. Very impressive.

Way too funny (5/10★)

Did the playwright know about the gangsters that got ran out of Siracusa? Their ringleader was a red-haired Vulpo, and the protagonist bore too many similarities to him. Impulsive and arrogant, yet not dislikable at all. The other two brothers, one calm, one brash, matched them perfectly as well!
Too true (4/10★) It's the lowest wise guy who hates his famiglia, all while clinging to it, yearning for it, until he finally betrays the brothers who were there for him all the way up the ladder just to save his own skin. It's what it is.
Didn't finish (8/10★) Had to leave halfway through because something came up. But, it was still pretty touching to see three like-minded young men. You don't see such tight-knit fratelli these days.
Kids these days (6/10★)
Unknown
Like-minded youths always seem to come together. Really takes me back.
Waste of time (1/10★) Boring as hell.
Lots to improve on (6/10★) The playwright still needs some refinement. Beginning a story with minor characters is a common maneuver. It reflects the changing times, as well as personal development and choices. Unfortunately, the execution didn't pan out in the end.
Mediocre (5.5/10★) Just the same run-of-the-mill stuff I see every day after work. You know what the playwright is trying to convey through these three characters, but unfortunately, they don't have the skills to pull it off.
Thought of something else (5.5/10★) Next time, I'm going to ask the boss if we can shoot a film about a group of friends, just like this. We'll move the setting from Lungmen to Siracusa. Dunno about anyone else, but I sure wanna star in that myself★!
Pretty bad (5/10★)
Unknown
What the playwright seeks to express is evident, but unfortunately, cannot fully do so due to a lack of ability. For example, the brothers' rebellion at the end should've reflected the famiglia's principle of self-interest above all else, yet this was written off as a farce. But having that said, were it not for that bit of expressiveness, the entire opera would've been a complete waste of time.
Didn't get it (5/10★) I didn't really understand what the show was getting at. I wanted to ask someone to explain it to me, but the judge lady who told me to check it out hasn't come by. I'm not sure how she feels about it in the first place. Maybe I'm not cut out for the opera.

Not much to say (3/10★) I heard that the directing team recently won an award. I hope the show actually earned it, and isn't just another mediocre product propped up to fluff Signora Sicilia. It's not fair to hardworking playwrights.
Fake (3/10★) Never expected this play to be so long. I fell asleep halfway through, and got woken up by the people next to me. Almost got kicked out of the theater again. Seeing them trying to fluff up the famiglie like that at the end, not to mention Signora Sicilia, was pretty damned funny.
Rather disappointed (3/10★)

The title of the play caught my fancy, and I originally planned to study up on the actors, but the story itself was rather disappointing. It should've been about the history and evolution of Siracusa over the years, as well as the conflicts among the famiglie both above-board and behind-the-scenes, but they kept forcing in those strange little praises instead of treating the subject matter seriously. Also, the actors looked pretty lost.
Haha... (1/10★) Hahaha, you sure worked your ass off, director!
Left halfway through (3/10★) Like so many other commenters, I was drawn in by the title. I thought it would be a historical documentary based on primary sources. I was pretty disappointed. If you're looking to study this to improve your writing, I'd stay home instead.
Something special (5/10★)

After thinking on it, I finally decided to buy another ticket. When would be a good time to invite her to come see it? What a fascinating performance.
Didn't like it (4/10★) About halfway through, I decided it'd be more worthwhile to throw a party! Croissant was right, I should've sold apple pie at the door!
*Edited 3 days later* Huh? Turns out, I went to the wrong number, haha!
No risk, no reward (4/10★) Shows like this are a quick way to score fame and fortune, and the fact that it's won awards is unsurprising. However, I've been thinking recently–if people get too used to this logic, they'll just keep talking up whoever's actually allowed to speak, even if Grey Hall and the famiglie cease to exist.
Absolute garbage (1/10★)
Unknown
Playwright? Bah, whoever created this doesn't deserve the title. All he knows how to do is grab some pretentious words, some inflammatory ones, and some trendy topics to bait people into paying for it. Slap this hodgepodge together, and call it a finished work!
Never should've been put on stage (1/10★) Some of my subordinates recommended me this opera. They genuinely believe in the history it recounts, as well as the lofty heights to which it lifts the famiglie. Siracusa's famiglie were never meant to be her saviors. Harboring such illusions in the first place would only serve to destroy the famiglia.

Dumbfounded (1/10★) Still boring as hell.
Left halfway through (3/10★) You rarely see shows this bad. A complete waste of the time I have after work. I probably should've realized what I was getting into when I saw the long list of companies in the credits.
Addictive (7/10★) A lot of people started walking out, so I went up to the front. There were lots of exciting fight scenes, so that was good.
Give me my time back (2/10★) I'd rather try nibbling on thistles.
Disappointing (2/10★) Quite inferior, even if we're purely speaking from the perspective of a playwright's creative process. There were actually seven main characters, all of which died in the end. Combined with the tragic music, I was left utterly speechless.
Slept through it (2/10★)

This eye mask is good at blocking out the light, and the performance did a great job of putting me to sleep.
Pretty neat! (9/10★)
Unknown
There are hardly any shows these days that can make me laugh out loud, and they only get fewer and farther between. So just for that alone, nine points!
Exactly what I expected (3/10★) I decided to watch it because of the reviews, so I understand where the polarized ratings come from. I remember watching a movie from Lungmen before that had some nice fights between the gangsters and the cops. What the hell was this?
Terrible (3/10★) If a Lungmen movie ever turned out this bad, a certain someone would make a fifty-long diss track.
Had to bail (3/10★)
Unknown
Had to walk out halfway through. On the way back, I finally figured out what was so weird. Siracusa doesn't even have police! The Lungmen-style gangster flick adapted it to a judge and the wise guys doing drive-by crossbow shootings, which was beyond hilarious. Too bad the boss isn't here, because I'd LOVE for him to get a load of this.

Trivia

With the exception to La Morte di Texas (lit. "The Death of Texas") which is an in-universe play about the fall of the Texas famiglia, the plays reference (and likely are based on) various crime/gangster/mafia-themed box office movies in real world:

  • Guardie e Armi (lit. "Cops and Soldiers") is likely a reference to the Italian cult comedy film Guardie e ladri (Cops and Robbers).
  • Cattivi Ragazzi (lit. "Bad Guys") is a reference to Goodfellas. Their posters use similar format and their titles use an identical font.
  • La Ragazza Siciliana (lit. "The Sicilian Lass") is a reference to The Irishman. They focuses on a certain person of a certain origin and their titles use an identical font.
  • Sette Assassini (lit. "Seven Assassins") is likely a reference to Seven Samurai or its Western-style remake The Magnificent Seven.
    • Due to an oversight, the poster displays the title as Sette Assassinia, which has a different meaning of "Seven Assassinations".
