LEONTUZZO BELLONE The conflicted young master of the wolfpack, emblematic of an era in flux. By all logic, the heir serves the bidding of the famiglia. Yet, he has never given up on questioning whether the path set by his father was the correct one, or contemplating the choices he should make.
	CINQUEDEA DI FAMIGLIA (Family Short Sword) A short sword that bears testament to his status as a mafioso. A gift from father to son, representing the acknowledgement and expectations of the man who was both his father and don of the famiglia.

A banquet, not particularly grandiose.
Leontuzzo	Signor Ministro, we could take care of this, easy. And it'd be awful nice if I didn't need to lean on the old ways of getting you to pay me back. We'll cover some of the expenses, and use our connections in the government to handle this for you. In return, someday, and that day may never come, we will call upon you to do a service for us.
The man sitting across the table is in no hurry to speak, swirling the wine around his glass.
Il Ministro	...... If I make this deal with you, the public servants who currently show me great respect might change their minds about me. Their respect hinges on me acting without self-interest. My reputation is very important to me.
Leontuzzo	That's... unfortunate, Signor Ministro. It saddens me that we can't see eye-to-eye.

1-B
A man is walking briskly along the road, and behind him follows a youth dressed in black. Among the crowd, they subtly fall into sync.
Leontuzzo	Signor Ministro, I wanted to talk about your thing. I'm thinking it's something you'd wanna take care of quickly. Wouldn't want it plastered all over tomorrow's tabloids. In a few days, it might even get adapted into a burlesco.
Il Ministro	......
Leontuzzo	I really don't want to lean on the old ways here. All I need is an agreement that you'll return the favor when the time is right.
His lips curl with the faint joy of a persuaded man, but he quickly suppresses it with the proper expression of one being threatened.
Il Ministro	...I have no idea what you're talking about. Please don't bother me again, especially not in public.

Leontuzzo pushes open the door of the study. There are already mafiosi inside waiting for his response.
Leontuzzo	The job didn't go well.
Bellone Mafioso	But that tells us he's not about to get won over by the other famiglie either, Signor Leontuzzo. We're not in such bad shape.
Leontuzzo	Call Demetri over.

Demetri	Want an apple?
Leontuzzo	......
Demetri	He's a stubborn paper pusher. If he's not ready to get with the times, we'll just have to go with the tried-and-true methods.
Demetri	Want me to come along?
Leontuzzo	...I guess. Sounds like you want an excuse to get a little workout, huh?
Demetri, standing next to him, raises his eyebrows.
Demetri	Oh? I was almost expecting you to say something about "principles."
Leontuzzo	...I've had some things on my mind, that's all.
Demetri	Like what?
Leontuzzo	He felt like he deserved more from us. Still, I want to find the path of least resistance. Let's go.

Leontuzzo	We're here.
Demetri	Alright, lemme handle this. Okay, he's on board. He'll see you tomorrow.
Leontuzzo	You didn't have to do anything?
Demetri	The guy was sobbing and cradling his little pet. Besides, I would've felt bad taking a shower in somebody else's house. Must've been a real shock for him to find out halfway through his meal that all his guards had been replaced, top to bottom. I doubt anyone would care if the guy sitting across the table had blood on him, at that point. What a damned shame though. He took pretty good care of that pet.
Leontuzzo	Since he's working with us now, we'll have to find him another one. He's gonna love it.

Leontuzzo	Where's the old man?
Bellone Mafioso	The Don went to the theater.
Leontuzzo plops himself down onto the sofa, and the other mafiosi step back respectfully.
Leontuzzo	Conflicts, games, and fangs... Grey Hall, Siracusa, and the Bellones... Padre.
He opens his eyes and looks at a short sword hanging on the wall. It's a gift his father gave him many years ago. It represents the acknowledgment and expectations conferred upon Leontuzzo, both as a father and as don of the famiglia.

He reaches out to retrieve the short sword, before pushing open the doors of the study. Bernardo's study is spacious and bright, the chair in the middle of the room is missing its owner.
Leontuzzo	Padre. ...... Ever since I was little, I've always thought about what Famiglia Bellone should be. When I saw "il Signore dei Lupi," I didn't want to accept that it was a higher existence than me or my famiglia. Could it be that everything I've known, everything I've done, it's all been nothing more than the games of higher beings? Is that what you had in mind when you gave me this sword as a favor from the don? Even if you were sitting right here in front of me right now, I don't think you'd answer that question. You might see me as a disobedient son, or an unqualified successor. But I've never tried to deny who I am. If you were wrong, then I will prove it to you. If I was wrong, I'll rethink everything I have to do. But what was never an option, is hiding at home while other people fight for their lives.

Leontuzzo	What time does the performance start?
Bellone Mafioso	It began half an hour ago, Signor.
Leontuzzo	Hm, I can still make it in time.
He looks at the audience members running from the theater.
Leontuzzo	As someone who doesn't want to give up just yet.

Leontuzzo	Hah, I can't believe I'm doing this. But, if I still don't find her here, that would mean she's avoiding me on purpose. Lavinia, you better not get too far ahead of yourself just because you're eager to prove your ideals, just because you want to change the country. None of that is worth your life.

Leontuzzo	She's not in her usual strolling spots. But there's nothing strange about that. There's no way she'd be in the mood for a stroll right now. Then, what am I doing looking for her here? Am I going to tell her to stop? Explain my ideas to her? Offer some worthless condolences? Maybe it doesn't even have anything to do with her. As the heir who's fallen out with his don, as a man who can't see through all the chaos, what should I be doing?

Leontuzzo	She's not at her favorite theater either. The last time I watched a show here, my father hadn't started any of this stuff yet. Joining hands with the Saluzzos to murder Donna Rossati... We've been doing things the old Siracusan way lately. Our famiglia is still antiquated, at its heart.

6-1
Civilian	Move, that's Don Bellone's son. Don't stare. I think he just got out of the funeral...
Leontuzzo	......
Several residents bow their heads and quickly shuffle away.
Leontuzzo	Wait, hold on...
Civilian	Eek! S-Sorry, we didn't see anything! We'll be on our way!
Leontuzzo	...... Relax. Famiglia Bellone is gone. I'm just a guy now.

Civilian	...... Ah, umm... Sure. Sorry, b-but we'd better get going... We didn't see anything at all, promise!
Leontuzzo	......
Leontuzzo opens his mouth, but can't get out the words he wanted to say. He comes to a realization.
Leontuzzo	I don't think my father's vision will come to pass. Because even when the commoners are freed from the famiglie, they've never known anything else. They don't know how to move on. Siracusa will end up the same as she ever was. And so, I have to make them realize, and then accept, my vision–a city without famiglie. Otherwise, Nuova Volsinii ends up under my thumb, as the new don of Famiglia Bellone. It'd be just another extension of the famiglia's power. They don't understand the magnitude of the changes we're trying to make.

Civilian	Anyway... goodbye now...
Leontuzzo	......
The park has fallen still and silent, only a few residents are enjoying their leisure time in the distance. As they come and go, Leontuzzo sees a figure he recognizes. He subconsciously loses his breath for a moment. He still remembers their conversation in Grey Hall.
Leontuzzo	Signora Sicilia?
He sits up straight, but the figure has already disappeared.
Leontuzzo	......
Had Signora Sicilia really come, he knows that even if he were to meet with her, she would offer him nothing more than "condolences." But he knows what everyone is striving towards, and he knows what he should do.
Leontuzzo	A trial. A trial for him, a trial for all to see.

Lavinia	You're back.
Leontuzzo	Lavinia, I've been thinking, there's no way for us to realize our dream with just the few of us going about our business. We need to do something to show the people who lived through all this that we will build a new city, and a new Siracusa. We can't let our dream be so detached from the common people, we can't leave it a faraway hope. That's the only way we'll see our ideals come to life.
