Operation guide: The Abandoned

One of three possible Dreadful Foes in Chapter III of Ceobe's Fungimist, The Abandoned pits the player against the Forsaken One, a heavily mutated victim of Oripathy with rather average ATK and lacking defenses, but having significant HP and both a melee and ranged attack along with, the most problematic, an ATK and ASPD buff that stacks additively in each successive attacks, up to a limit. This makes it important to not allow the Forsaken One to build up its stacks high enough, as while it normally cannot inflict serious damage, it can defeat most Operators sent in to stop them should it build up its buffs high enough (at least 12). Fortunately, the Forsaken One's buffs will reset if it does not attack for 4 seconds, so the player can withdraw their Operators if things go south and take it on later, or use crowd-control Operators to drop its buffs to 0.

The other enemies are not too threatening compared to the Forsaken One aside from their bulky stats, and there are only 15 of them.

General strategies

  • The Forsaken One must be burst down ASAP or, if that fails, fought twice. Be sure to keep the inner Operators out of its ranged attacks' reach.
    • Enemies in the inner lanes can be handled by any decently strong defensive force, provided the Forsaken One does not interfere as mentioned above. Due to their low RES, Casters are effective when paired with Defenders and Medics.
    • An Elite 2 Thorns is capable of handling nearly the entirety of the inner lanes on his own.
  • "Helidrop" Operators are valuable to stall the Forsaken One and damage it as much as possible, particularly those with sustain (to stall it for longer) or quicker redeployment (so they can be retreated once the Forsaken One starts building up stacks). In particular, Jaye can trivialize the fight if he has the Collectibles to back him up, as his high damage output, significant self-healing from Skill-Jaye2.png Sashimi Platter, and short redeployment time allow him to stay in combat with the boss for quite some time, before redeploying later to repeat the process until the Forsaken One is defeated.
  • The Forsaken One does not deal a lot of damage until it starts building up stacks, so it is possible to lure it into a spot with several ranged DPS Operators and deploy a high-HP, high-DEF melee Operator to distract it while the ranged Operators burst it down. If the ranged Operators' DPS is good enough, this should be enough to defeat the Forsaken One or taking out a large chunk of its HP for a second try, as it will stop for some time at several points along its path.
    • Higher-rarity Operators would deal the most damage to the Forsaken One due to its low defenses. In particular, Marksman Snipers and Rosa can outrage the Forsaken One especially if thy are deployed in a way where their range covers where it will stop.
