A special tutorial operation in the Operation Originium Dust event, OD-TR-1, titled Sargon Desert, gives an insight on Sandstorms and how to mitigate them by using Dirt Mounds.
At the start, a Sandstorm blows toward the right side of the map just as a Metal Crab spawns from B1. Ash then points out that Terran sandstorms are unusually stronger than that in Earth (i.e. our world), which reduces the ATK of friendlies and drains their HP over time; should a friendly is KO'd while being exposed to a Sandstorm, their redeployment time will be increased. Fortunately, Dirt Mounds are strong enough to protect anyone and anything behind it from the Sandstorm, but the Sandstorm will drain the Mounds' HP unless when reinforced by Reinforcement Devices.
Blitz and Frost will be deployed on F8 facing down and B7 facing up, respectively, while two Reinforcement Devices are deployed on C5 and E3 to reinforce the Dirt Mounds on C6 and E4, respectively; the player can also reinforce the Dirt Mound on B5, if they want. Note that Blitz and Frost are unaffected by the Sandstorm as they Dirt Mounds on F5 and B5 blocks the Sandstorm from affecting units and objects in the lane behind it and as mentioned earlier, the Mounds' HP are gradually whittled down by the Sandstorm. Once the Reinforcement Devices finished reinforcing the Dirt Mounds, the said Mounds will no longer have their HP drained by the Sandstorm. Once the Mounds are reinforced, Ash will be deployed on E9 facing left; the player should deploy Tachanka on C8 facing up and use Frost's Welcome Mats to aid in dispatching the Metal Crabs, and use what one have learned so far to dispatch the enemies; note that the Sandstorm reduce the speed of enemies exposed to it.
Once the first four Metal Crabs are eliminated, two more will spawn from F1 just as the Dirt Mound on F5 crumbles thanks to being exposed into the Sandstorm for too long, and note that Blitz now starts losing HP over time and have his ATK reduced. Thankfully, for this operation only, the Metal Crabs will move straight into the hole on where the aforementioned Dirt Mound used to be, plummeting into their doom.
