Hailing from the northwestern desert of Yan, Jieyun is of different origin. She is an Anasa—a Teekaz offspring inhabiting the Yanese wilderness. She is also a disciple of a particular shifu, an outsider who had been a well-respected mentor of her tribe after leading them to find a new settlement from a ravaging Catastrophe. Unfortunate, her shifu passed away due to illness, and Jieyun wished to pay her final respect to her. From her last words, she learnt of her past as a guardian of Yumen and a comrade of Chongyue the Grandmaster. So, she sought to steal Chongyue's magical sword sealed with Sui's consciousness and bring it in front of her tomb as her farewell. But little did she realized that she was entangled by the plot of the Shanhaizhong, causing the garrison soldiers to label her as a wanted criminal.
After the Yumen incident, Jieyun was introduced to Rhodes Island under Waai Fu's recommendation. Her unique racial traits offer R.I. a rare opportunity to study the lost Anasa tribe, and Jieyun in turn stays in R.I. as a field operative to both treat her Oripathy, which she sees it more of a blessing than a curse like other Anasa, and open a door for her to follow after Chongyue's legacy.
