Get the Treasure Hunter to identify it at the Black Market, and you may end up with something useful.

Usage
When entering the Black Market while having the Fossil Fragment, the Treasure Hunter will be present and can be talked to, where she will offer to identify the Fragments at the cost of 15 
, trading it for a random item from the selections below:
