Character trivia: Ya
< Ya
NPC | Enemy | Trivia |
- They are obviously named after Yazi (Hanzi: 睚眦), one of the nine sons of the Dragon King in Chinese mythology. They also possesses its traits such as its jackal ears and dragon tails.
- The character itself alone literally means "rim of an eye" or simply "stare".[1]
- Yazi is said to be an aggressive, vindictive creature, hence the Chinese proverb 睚眦必报 (Pinyin: yázìbìbào; lit. "vengeful as Yazi").[2] This fits well to Ya's vindicative nature against Yan's Great Hunt.
- Yazi is often associated with swords as many Chinese swords have its carving on crossguards as decorations. This alludes to Their rim-shaped ornament and Their sword.
- The original Chinese text uses gender-neutral pronouns when referring to Ya, but as with Sui, the English localization uses the impersonal "it" instead of the more appropriate singular they. This might be a translation error.
