  • Rathalos' English name is a stylized localization of its original Japanese name, Liolaeus. It is the combination of two Greek words, liontári (λιοντάρι) and vasiliás (βασιλιάς), meaning "lion king" which fits its honorary title as the "King of the Skies." In the meantime, its English name is likely the combination of "wrath" and "talons," a.k.a., "wrathful talons."
  • Being the flagship monster of the original Monster Hunter game, Rathalos itself has been a mascot of the MonHun series and is always present in every MonHun collaborations with other franchises such as Puzzle & Dragons, Final Fantasy XIV, and Dragon Quest of the Stars.
  • Rathalos has a female equivalent which is called Rathian, who is mentioned in the event story but does not appear herself.
  • Rathalos is the only enemy whose codename is entirely in numerals, which is actually the amount of days between the original MonHun game's release date (March 11, 2004) to when A Flurry to the Flame is live on the CN server (March 7, 2023): about 6935 days or 19 years.
  • All of Rathalos' attacks are direct parallels to its own attacks in the MonHun games, as are several of the mechanics exclusive to its fight including:
    • Attacking and severing its tail to weaken its tail attacks (although it does not give extra rewards like in MonHun).
    • Using Flash Grenades to bring it to the ground when it's flying, as well as it gradually building up resistance to them with repeated uses.
    • Ambushing it when it retreats to its nest to rest, such as by placing a large number of (Originium) Barrel Bombs around it. High-Energy Originium Barrel Bombs also have a hidden effect of briefly amplifying Rathalos' damage taken when used while he is sleeping, referencing how sleeping monsters are subject to a large damage multiplier in the original games.
