- Their name may be based on the English word cautelous, meaning crafty or cunning, befitting of their reputations as resourceful, sly predators.
- Like most other enemies introduced in A Flurry to the Flame, the Cautelotaur resembles a monster in Monster Hunter. In the Cautelotaur's case, it resembles a more reptilian version of Kulu-Ya-Ku which also uses nearby objects as tools in combat.
- The elite version of the Cautelotaur being the Kouaku Cautelotaur may also reference the monster due to their similar sounding names (Kou-a-ku vs. Kulu-Ya-Ku).
