Episode 08[edit]
Following the battle of Chernobog, a Savra introduces himself to the Doctor as an ordinary Detachment Operator, expressing surprise that the Doctor knows his codename, 12F. He reflects on the lengthy campaign and inquires if the Doctor experiences fear. If the Doctor asks whether he is afraid, 12F admits his fear of the same event happening in the future. If the Doctor says they are used to it, 12F expresses sadness but reassures the Doctor of no prejudice. He speculates that the Doctor is used to battle and wonders about their motivation. 12F then apologizes for overstepping, wishing for the Doctor’s departure from the theater of war, but also muses about the Doctor returning to their original field of study.
When the Doctor asks about 12F's purpose in this conversation, 12F explains that he seeks to understand their character. He notes the Doctor's recent return to Rhodes Island and the fact that their true nature remains unknown to many, despite Kal'tsit's prior announcement. 12F then laments the lack of choices in life but mentions his own decision to volunteer for the dangerous Chernobog core city mission. He concludes that the Doctor actually had a choice in coming with them on the mission, and trusts that they will always have a choice in the future.[1]

A mysterious voice speaks to 12F, urging him not to follow them. He wakes up to an irate Sarkaz mercenary, who yells at him to take cover as explosions occur on the battlefield they are in. Their vantage point was discovered by opposing forces, forcing them to move. After surviving numerous explosions, they take shelter in a safer location. The Sarkaz mercenary who injured his legs during the escape makes conversation with 12F, noting that his Arts technique is like of a seasoned veteran. The mercenary asks 12F about his battle experience, to which the Savra reveals that it is his first deployment, and that he owes his survival to luck. They discuss ways to survive their current predicament, but 12F notices light infantry consisting of Kuranta mercenaries approaching their location. 12F deduces running away is their only option.
The Sarkaz mercenary laughs at his honesty and asks for his name, to which he receives 46A as the answer. They relocate before their previous shelter is struck by artillery fire. The two are safe, though none of the other mercenaries made it out of the attack. They continue moving to the rendezvous point. The Sarkaz mercenary talks of the money he and his brothers were paid, while 46A gives a sparse answer of needing supplies and looking for someone he owes his life to. The mercenary berates him for thinking of finding them in Kazdel and his naivety, but another explosion occurs before he finishes his words. Although blinded by the explosion, 46A resolves to survive. Someone helps him up, giving him their approval and asking him to make his decision. 46A feebly holds his staff up and asks to come with the mysterious person this time, who is revealed to be Owl.
In the present time, 46A, now called 12F, wakes to Rangers offering him cold water and telling him to rub his eyes. 12F thanks the older Savra for his advice and receives a special remedy. He mentions remembering something from his past. Prior to being designated 12F, 46A stated that they did not possess a name. This prompted Owl to give him the name 12F, referencing March 3rd, the date of their encounter.
