- Duq'arael is a portmanteau of two Semitic words: duq (דּוּק; pronounced as dook), "to crumble" in Aramaic[1] and/or daq (דָּק), an obsolete short form for dakár (דָּקַר), "to pierce" in Hebrew,[2][3] and ari'él (אֲרִיאֵל) which, while literally meaning "lion of God" that is synonymous with "hero,"[4] is the name of an angel in the Book of Enoch. Hence, his name's meaning is "Crumbled/Pierced Angel/Hero," which fits his background.
- Duq'arael likely alludes to Cain in the Bible who was depicted as a blood-drinking demon in later works of some minor traditions such as the Jewish apocryphal Life of Adam and Eve and a translation in the Anglo-Saxon Beowulf.[5] His murder of his brother out of jealousy alludes to the Biblical story of Cain and Abel.
