Petrels and storm-petrels are part of a group called "tubenoses" after the funny-looking oversized nostril tubes on their beaks, which Irene's E2 birds don't have. Skuas are closely-related but don't have the distinctive nostrils, and of those species, the great skua is a match for the beak shape, overall plumage, and white wing flashes, as well as being extremely common in their home range. It took me 2 seconds to determine those weren't blue jays, but then 40 minutes of frustrated searching through a mixture of Wikipedia, iNaturalist, and Chinese-language birdwatching field guides to figure out what they actually were.
