  • Its Chinese name (Hanzi: 得意; Pinyin: dé yì) literally means "proud," "cute," or "complacent."
  • Its English name, Smarty, refers to "an obnoxiously clever/quick-witted person."
  • Smarty's appearance may be based on Guihuo (鬼火), a Chinese will-o'-wisp.[1][2]
    • Its Japanese name, Onibi (オニビ, lit. "fire ghost"), is the kun'yomi rendering of Guihuo.
