- Lungmen is the Wade-Giles romanization of Long men, which literally means "dragon gate" in Chinese.
- Lungmen is a parallel to Hong Kong, which can be treated as a part of Yan technically (which is a parallel to mainland China) but maintains a greater autonomy and has greater foreign influences.
- Furthermore, all Lungmenites' names are in Cantonese (rather than standard Mandarin like those from Yan) and they also speak certain Cantonese slangs.
- The slums may be a reference to the Kowloon Walled City.
- Lungmen also borrows elements from the bustling mega-cities in eastern China, such as Shanghai and Shenzhen. In fact, the name itself derives from the eponymous county in the province of Guangdong.
