- Her Chinese name refers to Xiaoman, the eighth of the twenty-four solar terms in traditional Chinese calendar. The period is marked by the ripening of grain crops, hence her English codename.
- This makes her, after Leizi (going by her Chinese name, Jingzhe), the second operator named after a solar term.
- Grain Bud's animal motif is the western cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis), and several birds of the namesake appear in her Elite 2 artwork. Interestingly, Grain Bud is born a cattle herder, fitting the egret's commensalistic trait with large mammals.
